Beautiful Additions to Your Every Day Vocabulary
Some truly lovely words + expressions
After recently delighting my senses in watching Escape to the Chateau (anyone else feel like they want a chateau in France after watching it?), I fell in love with the little words British couple Dick and Angel use in their everyday. “Goodness me!”, “Darling” and “Missus” all graced our ears as we watched them turn their broken down, fixer-upper chateau into a chateau dreams are made of.
Sometimes, the American English language-the Midwestern accent takes this even a step further-sort of lacks a lot of the charming words that other languages have. Sometimes, it feels a little... boring.
If you are in want of a fresh new fun vocabulary of little words/phrases to start using in the daily, I’ve got you covered in today’s post. It’s all inspired by the wonderful Strawbridge family of Dick, Angel and crew of Escape to the Chateau.
P.S. This is not a sponsored post, I’m just a fan of the show!
#1: Back in a mo’
Love this as a replacement for “be back in a second” or “give me a sec” because, if you’re being real, it’s never really a second. A moment or a “mo” fits the bill better. Plus, it sounds double lovely.
#2: Darling
This one has found itself across the pond more so, but not nearly enough in my humble opinion! “Sweetie” and “Dearie” are cute, but “darling”... that feels elegant.
#3: Goodness, me!
Another easy replacement for “oh my gosh!” This sounds classier and extra fun for those moments that require an OMG!
#4: Knackered
Picture this: it’s 10pm (or 12am or those night owls out there), and you’re feeling that gentle pull of sleepiness. Time for bed. You get up and say either a.) I’m so tired; I’m going to bed. or b.) I’m knackered; I’m going to bed. Knackered is just such a fun, elevated way of saying “Time for dreamsville!”
#5: To Family and Friends!
I love a good “cheers!” moment and believe firmly that we need to more of them in life. Sometimes you have an obvious toast: to the engagement of a couple, to a vacation, to a loved one’s chasing their dreams. And sometimes, you don’t have a clear toast. You’re simply together. And while those are the moments that we often don’t cheers one another, Dick and Angel’s toast of “To family and friends!” is oh-so perfect for those moments. Because being together is a reason to celebrate, and that toast covers it all.
So, darling, here’s to adding a little more flair to our everyday!
